Mental resistance is a shapeshifter, it takes on many forms.
From a general lack of motivation to a sense of foreboding to an honest-to-God physical pain. Your brain will go to great lengths to "keep you safe" when you venture into uncharted territory.
You know that feeling when you commit to something and immediately start to come up with reasons not to do it? Maybe you even turn it into an opportunity for anger "I can't believe these people want me to commit my time, don't they know how BUSY I am?"
Or when you decide to FINALLY attend that Meet Up with people in your community and suddenly start to "come down with something".
Maybe you decide to publish some of your writing on social media and are struck by a sense of foreboding so you delete it one second after you hit "post". If you are like me you might do it a few times Post / Delete / Post / Delete - drink some wine - Post / Delete.
Starting a business, ending a relationship, making new friends, sharing your art - it all seems SUPER scary to our primitive brain and it will throw up all types of roadblocks to try and convince us to retreat.
It's is like digging a hole and suddenly hitting rock. Too often we take it as a sign to give up, when really it's a sign to dig in.
When you start to recognize the shape that mental resistance takes in your own life you are not only able to recognize it you can celebrate it, because it means you are making progress. You are on the right track! If you stop moving forward every time you come up against resistance you will NEVER GET ANYWHERE. You have to break through at some point - it might as well be THIS TIME.
THIS TIME you need to refuse to take your foot off the gas. THIS TIME you need to keep pushing even when it gets uncomfortable. THIS TIME you need to keep the commitments you made EVEN IF they feel scary.
REVELATION lies just on the other side of resistance and you do NOT want to miss it.
